Mission Statement:  To build and promote a culture of integrity and accountability, without fear or favour, affection or ill will; to help build and strengthen public trust and confidence in elected officials, members of the National Assembly, Ministers of government, Senators, Speaker of the National Assembly, and those public officials and all other persons, statutory bodies and state enterprises to whom the Integrity in Public Life Act apply.

The Integrity Commission (IC) was established by the Integrity in Public Life Act No. 18 of 2013 and became functional on the 11^th day of July 2018. The Commission’s existence serves to safeguard the public’s best interests by ensuring optimum levels of transparency, accountability, and integrity are maintained by those serving in public office and managing public systems in the people’s interests in St. Kitts.

Increased societal confidence in public bodies and public officials and the transitioning to a more transparent public sector are of paramount importance to the Integrity Commission.  As such, the IC actively seeks to raise general public confidence in all public officials, statutory bodies and state enterprises.  The Commission will strive to reduce instances of corruption by upholding the tenets stipulated and imposed by the Integrity in Public Life Act. 

The Commission’s functions, given this mandate, are as follows:

1. To receive and examine all declarations filed by all public officials falling under the Act’s purview;
2. To investigate all complaints by any person of alleged bribery or acts of corruption under the Act by public officials;
3. To carry out investigations pursuant to the provisions of the Act;
4. To make inquiries regarding filed declarations;
5. To investigate the conduct of any public official falling under the Act’s purview;
6. To examine the practices and procedures of public bodies as regards the Code of Ethics;
7. To instruct, advise, and assist the heads of public bodies with respect to changes in practices or procedures necessary to minimise the occurrence of corrupt practices;
8. To plan and conduct education programmes aimed at increasing public awareness and knowledge about the Act;
9. To perform all other functions as may be required pursuant to the provisions of this Act or any other enactment.
